Telstar: Classic Capri Review & behind the scenes
Submitted by kls010 on Tue, 16/06/2009 - 23:27.
Huge thanks to Stephen Wickham for contacting the site, as editor of Classic Capri Review, magazine of the Ford Classic and Capri Owners Club and whose car was used by JJ in the film.
He had written a few articles for the club about the film including this one (a pdf) in April - May 2008, which includes fantastic behind the scenes photographs of JJ with the car. The car is an English built Ford Consul Capri from 1962 (designed in the clay by Colin Neale in 1957, and built 1961-1964)
The car gets four scenes, two of them sequential in 1963, one in 1964 and the last in 1965, which is where this photo arises on the second day of use...
For a Nick Moran east London image focus its a Ford (Consul) Capri built by Londoners (and Essex girls) from Dagenham at the time the film is set, but fitting the star billing its also the second most expensive Ford in the range in its day. It has five chrome stars across the front grill.

Telstar: reviews and downloads
Submitted by kls010 on Wed, 27/05/2009 - 21:43.
Thanks again to Ima, who spotted that the official website now has a few more JJ extras; including wallpapers, screensavers, cast biographies and interviews.
When Nick (Moran) called me and asked to play Heinz I said 'I don't play an instrument and can't sing so I am the wrong person'. He said 'Heinz couldn't sing or play at all, you're perfect'.
To get to know the character I looked at old documentaries and old video footage and saw how he performed. I've watched interviews with him and have been very lucky to talk to a lot of the real people like Jess Conrad and Patrick Pink who gave me their inside take on him.
With these amazing costumes you find the rock n'roll in you immediately! However with the hair I can't look in any mirror at myself, otherwise it puts me off for the day! I've been blow-dried within an inch of my life every morning and peroxided until my hair falls out!Rock 'n' roll was in his blood as his father was the guitarist with the 60's London folk group The Springfields, most famous for being the launchpad for celebrated singer Dusty Springfield. In Telstar the role of Heinz took JJ back into the world his father knew as a musician in the 60's and to prepare, JJ took guitar lessons.
Total Film gave the film 3 stars.
The hits come but as surely as Meek lives in a mess, he’s a mess himself. A pill-gobbling bully, a bad businessman and somewhat loin-driven to boot, he alienates all-comers and haemorrhages cash on Heinz, a gormless wannabe played to preening-pillock perfection by JJ Feild.

Many thanks to Stephen, who contacted the site to let us know that the official website has changed. Gone is the black layout, to be replaced at present, with what appears to be the film poster.
I assume more content will be added shortly. Check it out here.

Telstar: premier images & review
Submitted by kls010 on Sun, 26/10/2008 - 15:19.
Thanks to Ima in the forum for spotting gorgeous photos of JJ at last night's premier here. There is a brief review on this blog for Shadows On The Wall.
Telstar **** The story of music pioneer Joe Meek is told in period style, as a madcap 1960s comedy-drama tracing his outrageous rollercoaster career as the guy who produced the first British record to go No 1 in America. The film, directed by actor Nick Moran, had so much energy that it's almost exhausting, but it also keeps us thoroughly entertained with the antics of Joe and his merry band of musicians. And when it all goes horribly wrong, Joe's descent into paranoia is truly terrifying.
