Pure Mule: to air this weekend on RTE
Submitted by kls010 on Wed, 02/09/2009 - 10:06.
The Herald.ie has a publicity image and article promoting this coming weekend's broadcast of the new 2 part special of Pure Mule.
Pure Mule fans are to get another fix of the hit show when it returns for a two-part special later this month. Pure Mule: The Last Weekend will pick up four years on from where the acclaimed RTE show left off. And it will see popular characters Scobie, played by Garrett Lombard, and Jennifer, played by IFTA-winning actress Charlene McKenna, reunited in their midlands town.
An RTE spokesperson said: "This new instalment gives us the opportunity to look at what's happening in Ireland at a very different moment in time, through the eyes of familiar characters with the warmth and fun of the original series. Filming for the programme began in July in Birr, Offaly. It offered a huge boost to the local economy, but ironically the show will portray an unnamed midlands town in economic freefall. The show demonstrates how the recession has affected the country as we see Scobie, who works in the building trade, pack his bags for Australia when he sees Jennifer is back in town for her mother's funeral, with a new boyfriend in tow.
Earlier this summer, one of the writers hinted: "She's coming home to bury her mother and she has a handsome English boyfriend with her. "But Scobie and Jennifer always have an eye for each other. Some big, life decisions are to be made."
RTE is remaining tight-lipped about other plotlines. Pure Mule became notorious for its scandalous plotlines concerning sex and drug use in their attempt to convey modern Irish life as accurately as possible. The two-part special will be aired on Sunday, September 6 and Monday, September 7

Pure Mule: news updates
Submitted by kls010 on Sun, 26/07/2009 - 21:41.
Forum member Ima uncovered some more information about JJ's current project Pure Mule, including this photo from filming. Not able to see if it is JJ in the car.
The filming of the second series of Pure Mule began on Monday 22nd of June in Birr. Principal photography takes place in some publics areas in Birr, including the Courthouse on Townsend Street, the Latin Quarter Bar on Conaught Street and on High Street. The same writing and directing team is involved with Offaly men Eugene O’Brien (writer) and Declan Recks (pictured below) taking the helm once again as director. (Pictured outside Birr Courthouse are the cast & crew of Pure Mule - Thursday 25th June). Keep an eye out for a video interview with Pure Mule producer Peter Norris coming soon.
PURE MULE IN KILCORMAC
The filming of a follow-up to the film 'Pure Mule' caused a bit of excitement in Kilcormac on Thursday and Friday of last week when a film crew with trucks and cranes arrived to film on Kinnitty Road. The filming, which took place mostly during the hours of darkness, was of a building site, so "Brosna View" was created in Kilcormac for the purposes of the film. It is understood that filming also took place in Ballyboy and Lumcloon, so there will be much local interest when the film hits our screens later in the year.
